Current Exhibition 19 April to 03 July 2016
La PELLE by FONDACO
FONDACO is a group of Italian artists coming from different experiences and backgrounds, who share the desire to rediscover the ‘domestic’ side of art. They wish to present art in a context which is neither a museum, nor a commercial space. Art works and expressions ‘inhabit’ a private residence, making themselves freely and immediately available to visitors. FONDACO’s artists are also interested in developing a dialogue with collectors, art lovers, art critics in a friendly frame.
Officina, the founders of which had, since the origin of this ‘Associazione Culturale’, decided to put their private residence at the disposal of artists, is thus a natural partner of the FONDACO’s project.
FONDACO’s first exhibition in Brussels, La PELLE (La Peau), is hosted in Officina’s maison de Maitre at the Etangs d’Ixelles. Different art expressions are displayed around the theme of the unavoidable relationship and interaction between the human being and the surface of earth, and the tactile origin of vision. No curator. This exhibition is a multiple expression by artists for artists. Since a while, artists not only curate their own work, but demonstrate that they are able to share and confront themselves with other ways of conceiving art, pulling together ideas and experiences.
Artists: Alice Cattaneo, Vittorio Corsini, Fabrizio Cotognini, Martina della Valle, Marta dell’Angelo, Michela de Mattei, Elisabetta Di Maggio, Serena Fineschi, Francesca Grilli, Michele Guido, Claudia Losi, Francesco Lauretta, Claudio Maccari, Marco Andrea Magni, Matteo Montani, Maria Morganti, Beatrice Pediconi, Alessandro Piangiamore, Alessandro Roma.
Exhibition’s opening: 19 April from 6 to 9 pm.

Past exhibition: Lin Yan solo show ‘Beyond xuan’
14 November to 14 December 2014
Lin Yan' media are xuan paper (the paper of calligraphy), sometimes black ink, or glue. But Lin Yan utilises xuan paper as a material per se, creating her own language and producing three-dimensional works and installations. Her exhibition provokes an emotional involvement of the public.
The evening before the opening, 13 November at 7 pm, R.C. Morgan, art critic,
professor and writer, took place a conference at WIELS: Ink and Xuan: Chinese
artists, writing beyond writing – the specificity of Lin Yan.
Past exhibition: Nico Vascellari 2 February to 23 March 2014
The solo exhibition of Nico Vascellari marks the opening in Brussels of the activities of ‘Officina’, a new cultural association the main objective of which is to promote contemporary art by means of exhibitions, publications and research projects. On this occasion, WIELS organises an encounter with the artist (born in Vittorio Veneto in 1976 and working both in Italy and New York), aiming at presenting his creative itinerary, which started at the beginning of the new Millenium, and is inspired by a large palette of iconographic and iconic elements drawing on history, science, art, anthropology and popular traditions. Centred on the role of the invidual, in particular that of the artist, set in relation to the space he occupies in today’s society, Vascellari’s research articulates itself in a variety of means of expression which include installation, painting, thre-dimensional work, graphics, performance ( in particular his collaboration with Marina Abramovic), sounds and music (he plays in two musical groups that he has himself set up: With Love and Los Niños do Brasil).
The exhibition at Officina (14-28 February 2014, curated by Pier Paolo Pancotto) is accompanied by the publication of a catalog printed by Cassochrome and presented during the encounter with Vascellari.
